Machair Therapeutics
Hello.
I'm Ruth, an integrative psychotherapist, yoga teacher and facilitator based in Glasgow.
I believe therapy is first and foremost a relationship—one built on warmth, trust and curiosity. My role isn't to tell you how to live your life or offer quick solutions, but to walk alongside you as you make sense of your experiences, reconnect with yourself and discover what supports you in living more authentically.
My work is integrative and creative because I don't believe there is one "right" way to do therapy. Together, we'll find an approach that feels right for you. Alongside talking therapy, I may draw on gentle body-based practices informed by my yoga training. For those who are interested, I also offer Reiki as an additional, optional approach to supporting your well-being.
Life can feel messy, overwhelming and, at times, deeply isolating. Therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of what's happening, without judgement or pressure to have all the answers.
Together, we'll explore the stories, relationships and experiences that have shaped you, helping you build greater self-awareness, strengthen your relationship with yourself and develop the confidence to move through life in a way that feels more grounded and authentic.
I believe healing happens when we feel safe enough to be fully ourselves. My aim is to offer a compassionate and collaborative space where you can explore difficult emotions, understand recurring patterns and move towards lasting change at your own pace.

My Story.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent over a decade working in the humanitarian and charity sectors, supporting people through significant life challenges and facilitating community groups. These experiences strengthened my belief that people thrive when they feel heard, understood and connected, and they continue to shape the way I work today.
Alongside my private practice, I work part-time with Rape Crisis Scotland, providing therapeutic support to survivors of sexual violence. I have extensive experience supporting women, victim-survivors of gender-based violence, and adults navigating the challenges and transitions of early adulthood.
My background in activism and community work has also deepened my understanding of how our wellbeing is shaped not only by our individual experiences, but by the communities, relationships and wider social systems we are part of.
My own experience of therapy showed me the value of being truly heard and accepted without judgement. It helped me develop a deeper understanding of myself and strengthened my belief that we all have the capacity for growth and healing when given the right support.
That experience continues to influence the way I work today. I trust that you are the expert in your own life, and I believe therapy should empower you to reconnect with your own strengths, wisdom and resilience rather than relying on someone else to provide the answers.
I am the co-founder of Change Collective which is a small socially-focused yoga organisation, working for greater accessibility, affordability and equity in yoga and well-being offerings for people who are socially and financially on the margins of society. You can read more about what I do with them on their website here.
